Greg's Speech at Cal Poly a Success

Greg spoke at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) on Monday about the nonpartisan nature of the First Amendment, the ridiculousness of speech codes, and the importance of combating offensive speech with more speech. An by Amanda Sedo in the Mustang Daily, Cal Poly's student newspaper, demonstrates that students really took Greg's message to heart. For example, business student Lindsay Carr said:

I think many students would be surprised to know how many times peoples' rights have been violated, and I think it's important to understand that our rights still exist when enrolled at a university.

Michael Dewitt, a biomedical engineering freshman, added:

I feel like every student should have to listen to a presentation like this and realize more about the rights that we should have on campus.

These are precisely the responses that event organizer Sean Pringle and FIREwanted to hear. Sean's organization, the Cal Poly Republicans, viewed Greg's speech as an opportunity to motivate the administration to bolster its protection of free speech at Cal Poly. Sean said:

We (wanted) to get as many people as possible to come to this event as well as motivate the administration to help the campus achieve ‘green light' status.

Cal Poly is currently a "yellow light" institution, and there's no reason why it couldn't make the leap to the coveted "green light" rating. ֭, of course, would be more than happy to help Cal Poly make that leap.
