Case Overview

FIRE Victory closed

On February 17, 2007, the Michigan State University Police Department informed the school’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter that it would have to pay extra security fees to host a viewing of a film titled “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West.” A university administrator also implied that the YAF chapter would be held financially responsible for any protests or disturbances that broke out at the screening. In response to ֭’s March 13 letter urging the university to revise its policy on security costs at student events, the university’s president informed FIREthat a misunderstanding had occurred and that the police department had communicated to the event-organizers that there would be no extra fee for security.
