On October 3, 2023, Los Rios Community College District announced a moratorium on the “use or creation of images and reproductions of Native American human remains and cultural items,” including for teaching and use in students’ research papers. ��֭���� wrote the district on August 30, 2024, calling on it to end this policy and allow faculty and students to use these images and reproductions. After the district responded on September 13, ��֭���� wrote again on October 24, reiterating our concerns. Cosumnes River College Academic Senate President Jacob Velasquez then informed us that the district won’t change its existing policy without approval from tribal partners. In response, ��֭���� wrote the district for a third time on March 11 calling for an end to the moratorium. FIREalso blogged about the issue on March 13.
