George Washington University: Flyers Critical of Chinese Communist Party Torn Down Across Campus
Cases
George Washington University
Case Overview
In October 2022, flyers critical of the Chinese Communist Party were torn down across George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom campus. The flyers, created and posted by GW Chinese students and removed by unknown individuals, criticized the CCP’s human rights abuses. GW investigated students posting similar flyers in February during the Beijing Winter Olympics. On November 1, FIREwrote GW asking the administration to address this vandalism and censorship of political expression that the university’s free speech policies protect.
