Cases
Davidson College
Case Overview
On February 28, 2025, a Davidson College administrator accused student group Young Americans for Freedom with harassment for distributing pro-Israel pamphlets that allegedly contained “misinformation that promotes islamophobia [sic]” and for sharing an Instagram post “speculating [about] the sex/gender identity” of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. The administrator gave YAF two options: either accept responsibility or proceed to a disciplinary hearing. On March 7, FIREwrote Davidson explaining that YAF’s pamphlets and Instagram post are protected political advocacy under the school’s free expression policies. FIREurged Davidson to drop the charges and revise its harassment policy to align with its free speech principles.
