Re: West Virginia University Free Speech Policy

Dear Mr. Lukianoff:

Thank you for your letter dated February 11, 2002 concerning the Free Speech Policy at West Virginia University. WVU shares your organization's viewpoint that free expression is indispensable to the objectives of an institution of higher education.

WVU is committed to providing an educational and work climate that is conducive to personal and professional development. To that end, an ad hoc committee of the Faculty Senate has been charged with making policy recommendations that protect individuals' free expression rights while maintaining an orderly operation of the university.

I will share a copy of your letter with the committee and encourage concerned students to submit any recommendations that they may have to Linda Hausman, a Legal Graduate Assistant in our office. Linda can be reached at (304) 293-7526 or lhausman@wvu.edu.

Very truly yours,

Beverly D. Kerr
Associate General Counsel
