ÃÛÖ­ÏãÌÒ’s 2023 Faculty Network Conference is coming to Alexandria — and now taking proposals!

After a successful 2022 conference in Los Angeles, we’re pleased to announce that the 2023 FIREFaculty Network Conference will head to Alexandria, Virginia, this fall.

The conference will take place Oct. 19-21, with main sessions on Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21. 

Faculty and Ph.D. candidates are to present at the 2023 conference. FIREwill consider proposals to present empirical and theoretical scholarship at the conference, or to engage in fully-assembled panel discussions and debates.

FIRE’s Faculty Network Conference consists of presentations submitted for consideration through our call for proposals. As in past years, we seek papers and discussions on topics relevant to today’s discussions and debates on free expression and academic freedom in American higher education and beyond. For the first time, you are also welcome to apply to with a colleague. 

Faculty and Ph.D. candidates interested in presenting at or attending the conference are highly encouraged to join ÃÛÖ­ÏãÌÒ’s Faculty Network, through which they will not only have conference updates sent right to their inboxes, but will also receive an inside look at new FIREtools and resources.

Faculty whose papers are selected for individual presentation will receive an honorarium of $3,000, and co-presenters on a panel or debate will split the honorarium equally, in addition to receiving reimbursement for travel and lodging. 

The deadline to submit proposals is July 31, 2023, and we encourage interested faculty to for the best chance to be considered. 

We will open the general attendee application later in the spring, and will keep readers and supporters updated on any developments.
